Heritage Partners adds Counsel, Suren Gnanaraj, to Litigation Practice

Heritage Partners is pleased to announce that Mr. Suren Gnanaraj has joined the Firm as Counsel.  

Suren is a seasoned litigator with extensive experience in the original and appellate courts of Sri Lanka. His areas of expertise and practice include commercial, company, construction, delict, tax, intellectual property, power and energy, public and constitutional law. He also acts as Counsel in commercial and construction arbitrations, mediations and adjudications.  

Suren commenced his career as Junior Counsel in the Chambers of the late Mr. D. S. Wijesinghe, President’s Counsel. He later joined the Attorney General’s Department of Sri Lanka as a State Counsel in mid 2007 and was promoted to Senior State Counsel in 2017. During his tenure at the official bar, Suren represented the Government of Sri Lanka and its affiliate corporations and statutory bodies in several highly contentious and complex disputes. He also has extensive experience in advising on and negotiating high valued commercial, investment and financing agreements on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka as well as other State-owned corporations. During such time, Suren also regularly advised policy makers, Ministries and Government departments on important questions of law – including, on the constitutionality of Bills.

Suren holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B)from the University of London and a Master of Laws degree in Commercial Law(LL.M) from the University of Cambridge, U.K. He is a Solicitor of England and Wales and an Attorney-at-Law of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
